Fresh Pizza Dough! Really!

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that's... Birrittella's! This lovely family-run business in Tarrytown, NY just began delivering to us this weekend, but they've been making pizza dough for three decades and we think they've got a product worthy of making our own pizza. The dough is sold fresh but you can freeze it for later use -- I've done it, it thaws beautifully. Pile on some locally grown PSFC produce and you'll have yourself a delicious local pizza. Birrittella's Fresh Pizza Dough comes in two varieties, original and whole wheat. Look for it in the packaged cheese case... next to the fresh mozzarella, of course!

New Tortillas from HOT BREAD KITCHEN!!

The coop is now carrying organic, local corn tortillas from Hot Bread Kitchen. These tortillas are made by immigrant women who are trained in Hot Bread Kitchen's artisanal kitchen, with a focus on "creating a network of female entrepreneurs." These tortillas are made with nothing but locally sourced corn, and a touch of lime. You can really taste the fresh sweet flavor of the corn. HBK recommends that you keep these tortillas in the freezer, and pop them out as needed, in order to maintain maximum freshness, and increase their shelf life. Check out HBK's website for more information about the good (and delicious work) that this non-profit organization is doing: www.hotbreadkitchen.org You can find these tortillas in the dairy case all the way to the right, near the tortillas we currently sell. As usual, these handmade local goods are a steal here at the coop, and well worth it!
