The Coop also carries HBK's My Mom’s Nutty Granola. It is a crunchy, not-too-sweet blend of rolled oats, lots of almonds and peanuts, unsulfured raisins, wheat germ, seeds, and pepitas, all mixed together and baked with organic honey. We think it is subtle and honest, a good choice for those who don't want huge chunks of chocolate or exotic ingredients in their morning...

Sunbeam candles--new scents

Sunbeam candles are now available in new scents and as votives. Only essential oils in the scents and all the wicks are cotton. The company is located in the Fingerlakes region in NY. They use solar panels and try to do the right thing for their employees. You like your beeswax Buddha red--they've got it.

Pesto con pinoli, per favore!
Some of us were dismayed that none of the fresh pesto sauces sold at the Coop were made with pine nuts. Sure, technically the word "pesto" just means "pounded" in Italian, but the classic pesto sauce from Genoa is made with fresh basil, garlic, pine nuts, Parmesan cheese and olive oil. No offense to walnut and almonds but those nuts would never have made it into a batch of mom's fresh pesto in the summertime when the scent of fresh basil from the garden filled our house.
So let's give a big welcome to Whole in the Wall Pesto -- made locally at the semi-cooperatively run Whole in the Wall restaurant in Binghamton, NY -- with pine nuts, no silly substitutions. They make the pesto by hand on Sundays when their restaurant is closed. If you like these we'll get some of their other flavors (red pepper, sun-dried tomato, and dairy-free to name a few). Find them in the Egg/Tofu case with the other refrigerated condiments!
